How to Look After a Wooden Statue

Wooden statues are both delicate and durable, depending on the type of wood and craftsmanship. Proper care ensures their beauty and longevity.

1. Cleaning:

Dusting: Use a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth to gently remove dust. Avoid using abrasive materials as they may scratch or damage the surface.

Moisture Protection: Avoid using water or liquid cleaners, as moisture can warp or stain the wood. If cleaning is necessary, use a slightly damp cloth and dry the surface immediately.

2. Environmental Considerations:

Humidity Control: Keep the statue in a space with stable humidity levels (ideally 40-60%). Too much humidity can cause swelling, while dryness can lead to cracking.

Temperature Stability: Avoid placing the statue near direct sunlight, heaters, or air-conditioning vents, as temperature fluctuations can damage the wood.

Pest Prevention: Inspect regularly for signs of termites or other pests. If needed, use natural pest repellents or seek professional treatment.

3. Preservation:

Wax or Oil: For untreated wood, you can apply a light coat of natural beeswax or mineral oil every 6-12 months to nourish and protect the wood. Avoid heavy applications, as it may attract dust.

Handling: Always handle the statue with clean hands or gloves to prevent oils from your skin from staining the wood.
