History and Origin of Dzi Beads

History and Origin of Dzi Beads

The history of Dzi beads dates back thousands of years, though their exact origins are unclear. Some scholars suggest that they may have come from ancient trade along the Silk Road, while others believe they are native to Tibetan culture. Regardless of their origin, Dzi beads are regarded as sacred treasures in Tibetan Buddhism, believed to offer protection, healing, and enhanced fortune.

Material and Crafting

Most Dzi beads are crafted from natural agate or chalcedony, which are treated to create unique patterns and colors. Modern techniques can replicate the look of ancient Dzi beads using heat and chemical treatments, but these are considered imitations. Authentic ancient Dzi beads are extremely rare, expensive, and highly prized by collectors.
