Nepalis love learning new things! But not because they’re particularly eager to gain knowledge—it’s because learning a skill means they can get out of the country! 🚀 Nepal is a labor-exporting nation, and for most people, the ultimate life goal is simple: leave whenever possible. From 10-year-old kids to 50-year-old uncles, everyone dreams of working abroad. Why the obsession with leaving? Simple—money! Nepal’s economy isn’t exactly booming, and good-paying jobs are scarce. But if you go abroad? Whether it’s driving trucks in the Middle East, farming in South Korea, or washing dishes in Japan, your salary instantly multiplies! That’s why over 95% of Nepali families have at least one member working overseas, sending money home to keep things afloat.

And why is Nepal’s labor force disappearing? Because all the working-age people have left! 🤷‍♂️ Many industries are struggling—construction sites lack strong workers, restaurants can’t find waiters, and even local taxi drivers are rare because everyone’s off driving in Saudi Arabia for better pay! The funniest part? Since working abroad has become a norm, most young people don’t even consider building a career in Nepal. Ask them, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and they’ll reply, “An overseas worker!” 😂 The government is aware of the issue, but there aren’t many policies in place to retain talent. So for now, Nepal remains one of the world’s top labor-exporting countries, and this trend doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
